Softspikes' Black Widow Records 15th PGA Tour Victory Of 2003

Black Widow Worn By Winner And 73% Plastic Field

Black WidowGAITHERSBURG, Md. (September 15, 2003) - Softspikes(R) BlackWidow(TM) recorded its 15th PGA Tour victory of the season as the winner and 73% of the plastic field at the John Deere Classic, chose the No. 1 cleat on the PGA Tour.

The latest win for the Black Widow, which netted 73% of the plastic field despite horrible wet conditions, adds to an impressive list of 2003 victories which includes two major championships, with victories at the U.S. Open and British Open, respectively.

"Traction was everything for the players at the John Deere Classic, and clearly they chose the best traction cleat in golf, the Black Widow," said Leo Kahl, Director of Marketing, Softspikes, Inc.

Today, 99 percent of all shoes made in America are shipped with plastic cleats. Black Widow cleats with DCT are No. 1 in sales worldwide and are original equipment on FootJoy performance golf shoes.

SoftspikesAll of those figures are verified by the independent Darrell Survey, which only certifies brands of plastic cleats worn each week on the PGA Tour and the other major professional tours in the United States. The Darrell Survey does not "brand" the use of metal spikes, which account for less than 1 percent of the products American golfers wear on the bottom of their golf shoes.

Recently, Pride Golf Tee Company, the leading worldwide manufacturer of golf tees, acquired Softspikes, Inc., the pioneer of and worldwide leader in plastic golf cleats. The new entity is known as Pride/Softspikes. Through its innovative displays and packaging, Pride/Softspikes encourages all golfers to maximize their performance by checking their cleats. They just may need a change.
