Oak Ridge, TN (June 11, 2012)- The City of Oak Ridge was recently named as a Playful City USA in May 2012. Playful City USA is a national recognition program honoring cities and towns that make play a priority and use innovative programs to get children active, playing, and healthy. Playful City USA communities make a commitment to play and physical activity by developing unique local action plans to increase the access to play in their community.

According to Mark Watson, Oak Ridge City Manager, the Playful City designation gives everyone the OK to be youthful, imaginative and creative again. "Whether young or old, passive or active, inside or outside, the ability to play with and enjoy our families and friends is essential to a healthy lifestyle in Oak Ridge. Playful City is a unique opportunity to focus on making our community a fun place to live," said Watson. "Adding excitement and discovery to the everyday lives of young and old will make Oak Ridge recognized for its high quality of life."

Because the Secret City Festival is focused on community unity and children's and family activities are such a big part of the festival, organizers are excited to announce a new event called the "Kids City Circuit-A Playful City USA event". Participants in the Kid City Circuit must collect one bracelet from five designated children's area activities. When five different colored bracelets have been collected, participants should go to the Playful City registration tent in front of the water station in the children's area. At the registration tent, participants will register and redeem the bracelets for one free admission to the Municipal Outdoor Pool. One pool voucher is allowed per participant. Participants will have the option of keeping their bracelets after redeeming the pool voucher.

The Secret City Festival is presented by the City of Oak Ridge, the Oak Ridge Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Arts Council of Oak Ridge. The festival also features tours of the Manhattan Project sites, special events at the American Museum of Science and Energy, a children's area, arts and crafts vendors and the South's largest WWII re-enactment. Other activities include a BMX expedition, a car "cruise-in" and nationally known headline entertainment Friday and Saturday night. The concerts are family friendly as well and children under 10 are free with paid adult admission.

Parrotheads and fans of beach music will flock to the UCOR Concert Stage June 15 for the Friday night concert sponsored by Pro2Serve and CROET. A1A, the original and official Jimmy Buffett Tribute Band, will perform and have fans on their feet with fins in the air. Dave Landeo will open for the band.

Southern rockers 38 Special will close out the festival by bringing their signature rock sound to the UCOR Concert Stage at 7 p.m., June 16. Sponsored by WSI-Oak Ridge and NetGain, the Saturday night concert will also feature Mic Harrison and the High Score. 38 Special will perform hits from three decades of music and entertain fans with crowd favorites such as "Hold On Loosely," "Caught Up in You," "Rockin' Into the Night," and many others.

Tickets to this year's headline concerts are on sale for $20 and may be purchased online at www.SecretCityFestival.com, in person at the Oak Ridge Civic Center, or by calling the ticket line at 865-482-4432.
