Completed in 1842, it was designed by Robert Mills, the designer of the Washington Monument. In 1855, Thomas Walter, one of the architects of the United States Capitol building, created the design for an extension on the north facade of the building. Throughout the interior of the hotel, Cheryl Rowley Interior Design of Beverly Hills, has integrated the contemporary designs of an international roster of prominent architects, artists and designers, reflective of works found in New York's Museum of Modern Art.
