· An Old Fashion Yankee Doodle Dandy 6th Of July Lappsoappso Party At The Piper's In Virginia City VIRGINIA CITY, Nev. - In the good old bad old days on the Comstock Lode, when the nation was shrouded in Prohibition, the 20 saloons in Virginia City took to serving a great deal of ice cream and sodas, other beverages (Sacramental wine for religious or medicinal use) was available in the back rooms.
Piper's Opera House is bringing back the 20's tradition with a Yankee Doodle Dandy 6th of July lappsoappso Party on Sunday, July 6th, starting at 4 PM. Family entertainment... thrill to the amazing piano duo of Squeek LaVake and Phil Hudner, listen to the children of the Comstock sing, magic acts, clowns, a special performance of the Red Stocking blondes Can Can Girls, the best burlesque west of the Pecos. It is an ice cream social "Lappsoappso Party" a Comstock tradition dating from 1922 (it was a very good year) when the famous silent screen siren Bobette Simpson hosted the first Lappsoappso Party for the kids on the Comstock, with watermelon, hot dogs, hamburgers pop corn and Chism ice cream. A special prize to anyone who can sing all the lyrics to the famous Comstock song: who shot Maggie in her freckle. 4 pm Sunday July 6th at the Piper's Opera House in Virginia City Nevada $25 for Adults and children under 16 free.
