· July Heats Up And So Do Things To Do In North Dakota (July 17, 2003) - July offers up many fantastic opportunities to relive the history and heritage of North Dakota, as well as appreciate the splendor of its wildlife just outside your doorstep. Step outside and venture to these fun and fascinating locations in North Dakota.
Devils Lake Sullys Hill Birding Festival (July 24-27) Spread your wings and fly to Devils Lake for this fourth annual celebration of migratory birds, wildlife and nature. Visitors are able to experience guided tours, hot air balloon rides and educational workshops and presentations. Guided nature walks can be taken through Sullys Hill, the Lake Alice National Wildlife Refuge, Kelly's Slough National Wildlife Refuge, Grahams Island State Park, Fort Totten State Historic Site and other areas in the Devils Lake region. Mandan American Legacy Exposition (July 26-27) Take a trip back through time to the days of George and Libby Custer, the Mandan Indians and the fur traders in this weekend celebration of Fort Abraham Lincoln's colorful past. This living history event features the First Annual History Symposium, Frontier Army Days, Nu'eta Corn and Buffalo Festival and the Fur Trader's Rendezvous. Stanton Northern Plains Indian Culture Fest (July 26-27) For a glimpse into the American Indian culture of the past, visit the Northern Plains Indian Culture Fest. This two-day event will feature demonstrations of the lives of American Indian tribes that lived on the Plains. Flint knapping, porcupine quillwork, beadwork, flute music and brain tanning are just a few of the cultural activities offered at this event. Beach Spirit of the West Celebration (July 31 - Aug. 3) Celebrate the spirit of the west with sultry country sensation Terri Clark and her energetic rock show. Catch up with old friends at the all-class reunion or be amazed at the Friday night talent show with contestants from six states competing for a $1,000 prize. A street dance, buffalo BBQ, vendor booths, children's activities and pitchfork fondue will be on tap with the event closing on Sunday with the Home on the Range Match Rodeo. Taylor Horsefest (July 25-26) Leave your car at home and saddle up for the 10th annual Taylor Horsefest. Relax with cowboy music and poetry, petting zoo, children's activities, entertainment and food booths. Don't plan on driving anywhere, tractor taxis provide transportation to and from events. Minot North Dakota State Fair (July 18-26) Don't miss your chance to see national entertainers 3-Doors Down, Staind, Our Lady Peace, Diamond Rio and Alan Jackson, as well as experience some home-grown Dakota fun such as the bull-a-rama, parade, livestock shows, arm wrestling and bench press competitions. Kids will be overwhelmed by the Xbox Odyssey, a 106-foot inflatable dome containing more than 50 game stations. Gate admission is $6 for adults and $1.50 for children per day.
