Labor Day Event Celebrates 15th Anniversary

VILLAGE OF PINEHURST, N.C. - The air at Pinehurst will be filled with succulent aromas, rhythmic melodies and artistic vibrations creating a "Feast for the Senses" at the 15th annual Labor Day Wine Festival, August 28-September 1. The annual event promises to be bigger and better than ever with more entertainment, additional seminars and demonstrations, and an over abundance food and wines.

Over 25 regional, national and international wineries will be represented at the event. From Biltmore Estate and Robert Mondavi, which have been involved since the inaugural festival in 1988, to newer participants including Banfi Vintners with famous Italian wines and Jordan Winery offering extremely rare vintages of their California varietals, this year's list of participants is both expansive and varied in its offerings.

The weekend includes a remarkable line up of seminars and tastings that are as diverse as the wineries themselves. Chateau Ste. Michelle highlights Washington State viticulture, the second largest premium wine growing state in the U.S., while Schramsberg tells the story of Schramsberg and Methode Champagne styles. Girard Vineyards shares the art and blend of Napa reds and Cockburn's/William Hill enlightens participants on what constitutes a top quality port in its "Port Tasting 201."

The opening reception begins with the memorable Saber Champagne Ceremony, in which a bottle of champagne is uncorked with a saber and released into waiting champagne flutes. Another highly attended event, the Bormioli Glass seminar, invites guests to taste wines in glasses of different sizes and shapes to experience the impact their design has on wine flavor. Entertainment by the Fabulous Kays and the Bob Murphy Quartet among others sets a melodic backdrop for events including the Grand Dessert Buffet, Gala Dinner and the Black and Blues dinner featuring the Coastline Band in the newly renovated Pinehurst Fair Barn.

Rounding out the weekend, a diverse palette of art will be on display by regional artists. Renowned Seagrove potter Tom Gray joins the festival, showcasing some of his latest designs, which include his new serendipity green pattern. All arts, ranging from watercolors to oils, will be on display Saturday evening throughout the Carolina Hotel.

Packages for a two-night stay start at $431 per person, double occupancy and include accommodations, breakfast and dinner daily, plus all seminars, entertainment and wine tastings. Three- and four-night packages, as well as spa and golf rates, are also available. For more information call 1-800-487-4653 or visit www.pinehurst.com/winefest.
