· Delta Connection Increases Service To Six East And Midwest Cities From Atlanta ATLANTA - Delta Connection will offer customers additional jet service between Delta Air Lines' (NYSE: DAL) Atlanta hub and Newport News, Va.; Gulfport/Biloxi, Miss.; Grand Rapids, Mich.; Pittsburgh, Pa.; St. Louis, Mo.; and Toledo, Ohio, beginning Aug. 1, 2003. An additional round-trip flight between Atlanta and Gulfport/Biloxi will be added Sept. 1, 2003. Delta Connection carriers Atlantic Southeast Airlines (ASA) and Comair will operate the new service using the popular Bombardier CRJ regional jets.
The new service includes two daily nonstop, round-trip flights at Newport News, bringing to six the total daily flights between Newport News and Atlanta. One daily nonstop, round-trip flight each will be added at Gulfport/Biloxi, Grand Rapids, Pittsburgh, St. Louis and Toledo. The new schedule will provide seven daily Delta and Delta Connection flights to Gulfport/Biloxi, five to Grand Rapids, nine to Pittsburgh, seven to St. Louis and four to Toledo. "Flight frequency and a convenient schedule are top priorities for our customers," said Fred Buttrell, president and chief executive officer, Delta Connection, Inc. "The expanded service for these six markets provides customers greater opportunities to connect to the more than 880 flights operated by Delta and Delta Connection each day at our Atlanta hub." Known for its convenience, comfort and speed, the CRJ carries passengers in a two-by-two seating arrangement; every seat is an aisle or window, with no middle seats. The plane can cruise at a speed of 530 mph at altitudes as high as 41,000 feet and is recognized as the quietest commercial jet aircraft in the world. Delta Connection carriers include Delta's wholly owned subsidiaries Atlantic Southeast Airlines and Comair, additional regional carriers Atlantic Coast Airlines, Chautauqua Airlines and SkyWest Airlines, and codeshare partner American Eagle (in California).
