· Orient-Express' Luxe Westcliff Hotel In Johannesburg Opens Jacaranda Hill
Bookings for the New Meetings Facility Already Exceeding Expectations

The Westcliff's US$2 million conference center has opened. At a recent celebration for industry leaders, Westcliff General Manager Mark Holden revealed that bookings for business and social events to be held in the South African Arts and Crafts-style building are already exceeding expectations. Designed to accommodate a range of functions from high-level board meetings for ten to conferences and galas for 150 guests, Jacaranda Hill features the latest in business and catering technology.

"The investment by Orient-Express in this facility is a testament to their belief that Johannesburg is destined to be among the short list of the world's greatest cities for business and leisure travelers alike," said Mr. Holden. "Indeed, our new and elegant facility is a symbol of success of The Westcliff Hotel, already the grand dame of the province's hospitality industry. I attribute much of this achievement to our dedicated staff, who work tirelessly to provide our guests with an unparalleled luxury experience that is uniquely South African," he added.

Leveraging its prime location on a cliffside estate in the peaceful residential area of Westcliff, the Orient-Express luxe Five Star Diamond escape shares a leafy neighborhood with imposing architecturally significant homes. This celebrated vantagepoint allows for sweeping city views, the Magaliesberg Mountains, and Zoological Gardens below. The property is also close to downtown "Jo'burg," which is currently undergoing a powerful urban transformation, complete with exciting arts, cultural and building projects, as well as interesting economic revitalization works. Exposure to this colorful city with its Anglo-Boer history and struggle conflict makes for a fascinating travel experience. The Westcliff is composed of Mediterranean-style villas that cling to a terraced hillside, two heated outdoor swimming pools; tennis lit for nighttime play, and a fully equipped gym. There are also three private pools attached to suites. The property is ten minutes from central Johannesburg.

Named Jacaranda Hill, the new facility offers a host of sophisticated technology and elegant interiors, making meetings and social catering events more grand than ever. Each of Jacaranda Hill's various venues - The Arcadia Ballroom, The Protea Room (Bar), The Stralitzia Room, The Bamboo Room and The Erica Room - have been named in celebration of the local flora and fauna reflected in the hotel's exquisitely landscaped gardens. Jacaranda Hill now provides a special venue for gatherings in the grand manner evocative of the Rand in its heyday, and is surrounded by splendid landscapes, which continue to be a hallmark of the hotel.

Set on high ground above Jacaranda View, outdoor terraces make ideal settings for garden events and al fresco parties. Celebrants enjoy spectacular views of the Zoological Gardens, The Rand Regiments' Memorial, and the well-forested gardens of the Saxonwold.

From formal banquets, weddings and social events, to small meetings and intimate cocktail parties, proficient banqueting staff assist in all aspects of event planning. Menu options, designed by new Executive Chef Sven Neiderbremer of Europe, are extremely innovative and flexible, and provide for most special health, dietary and religious requirements. Other particulars such as decor, beverages, flowers by in-house Floral Couturier Franz Grabe, dining selections, and a full complement of professional services are expertly tailored to suit most preferences and budgets.

Sir Herbert Baker's architectural style is as evident inside the conference center as it is from the exterior. With an impressive layout, lower and upper assembly lounges feature vaulted ceilings, columnar spaces, and checkered marble floors. An imposing staircase, a centrally located fireplace, and damask-covered walls evoke the splendor of a bygone era. Floor-to-ceiling windows celebrate the site's idyllic location. Located adjacent to the hotel's Business Wing, Jacaranda Hill also features a covered walkway to link the two, making access convenient.
