· WEILL To Represent Berlin's Hotel Adlon, Germany's Most Prestigious Hotel
NEW YORK, NY (December 23, 2003) - Berlin's Hotel Adlon has appointed WEILL (Geoffrey Weill Associates) as its first-ever public relations representative in North America. The Adlon - officially called the Hotel Adlon Kempinski (it is a member of the German-based luxury Kempinski hotel chain) - is Germany's most prestigious hotel. Opened in 1907 by Kaiser Wilhelm II, The Adlon is situated on historic Pariser Platz and Unter den Linden, adjacent to the Brandenburg Gate, the ultimate symbol of the German capital.

Founded by wine merchant Lorenz Adlon, the hotel quickly became Germany's most famous hotel. "Discovered" by Hollywood in 1932, the boisterous lobby of The Adlon was the scene of the classic movie, Grand Hotel, starring Joan Crawford, John Barrymore and Greta Garbo. The original Adlon was damaged by fire in May 1945, and continued as a small hostelry adjacent to the East German side of the notorious Berlin Wall until it was torn down in the mid1970's.

The new Adlon - virtually identical, yet one-storey taller and even grander than the original - was opened in 1997 by Germany's President Roman Herzog. It quickly reverted to being Berlin's premier luxury hotel address, home-from home of statesmen, celebrities and sophisticated travelers. "We are delighted with this appointment," says Geoffrey Weill. "As a small child I heard tales and fables of the legendary Hotel Adlon," he explained, "and this appointment underscores our company's special affinity for what we call "Trademark Hotels" - hotels that are not merely fabulous, but which are also historic sites and inseparable symbols of the cities that surround them."
