· Volcano-Ravaged Montserrat Resort Re-Opens December 1
MONTSERRAT, West Indies (November 21, 2003) - How many hoteliers have to remove 1,500 truckloads of volcanic ash from their property? Cedric and Carol Osborne, owner/managers of the Vue Pointe Hotel on Montserrat - called the Emerald Isle of the Caribbean - have persevered and now plan to re-open their renovated cottage-style resort on December 1, 2003.

After the Soufriere Hills Volcano erupted several years ago, the Osbornes closed the Vue Pointe and, like many other Montserratians, relocated to the northern part of the island. Now the Government of Montserrat, in consultation with the Montserrat Volcano Observatory and expert volcanologists from around the world, has determined that the resort is safe for the next three years--and since the volcano's dome has not begun to grow again, it may be safe indefinitely.

In the meantime, all guest rooms have an amazing view of the steaming volcano and guests can take tours to the Observatory and damaged areas of the island.

The Vue Pointe Hotel is beautifully situated on a scenic hillside above Old Road Bay and a mile-long black sand beach that's ideal for swimming, snorkeling, walking and jogging. Cottages with and without kitchenettes (they all have ceiling fans, telephones and cable TV) have been completely refurbished, as have the swimming pool, shuffleboard court, library and gift and grocery shop. Guests will find the tennis courts playable. The hotel restaurant will serve breakfast and lunch daily and there are several restaurants nearby for dinner. The staff is unbelievably hospitable and, when the Osbornes say "our house is your house," they really mean it.

Cottages with kitchenettes cost $100 double, those without are $90, plus 10% hotel tax and 10% service charge. Montserrat is only 15 minutes by helicopter or 60 minutes by air-conditioned ferry from Antigua, which has non-stop flights from U.S. cities on American Airlines, US Airways, Air Jamaica and Continental. Rental cars can be arranged through the hotel.
