That's because beginning today, members of the Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan can donate miles to help transport troops home from the East Coast after they arrive stateside.

Mileage Plan members can show their support for U.S. troops returning home on leave by donating a minimum of 500 "hero miles" between October 23, 2003, and August 15, 2004. Plus, for every 5,000 miles donated, Alaska Airlines and Bank of America will each contribute an additional 1,000 miles. The Combined Forces Land Component Commander (CFLCC) will administer the use of donated miles for active duty members of the U.S. Armed Forces stationed in Iraq.
