· World Championship Virginia City Outhouse Races October 11 & 12, 2003
VIRGINIA CITY, Nev. (October 1, 2003) - The parade of Outhouses down C Street at noon on Saturday, October 11 indicates that the World Championship Outhouse Races, 2003 are about to begin!

A long-time tradition the World Championship Virginia City Outhouse Races is not to be missed.

The idea is that teams of three, consisting of two pushers or pullers and one human "driver" inside the structure, must propel an outhouse built to size and weight specifications down the street, stay in their own lane, negotiate a corkscrew turn and cross the finish line. No non-human driving force is allowed, such as, motors, horses, mules, dog teams, sails or jet propulsion.

The first heat starts at 1:00 on Saturday.

This year organizers expect 18 to 25 Outhouses to battle for the coveted Royal Flush trophies.

"Flaming Butt Hut" in the unlimited division is the one to beat this year. However, rumor has it that Oregon's "Only in America" and the Ole Tyme Saloon's "Urinator" may have a special racing formula to attain the top spot this year.

In the classic division the favorites are "Smudge Pot", "Skidmark" and "Pee II.

The Ole Tyme Saloon on Geiger Grade and Firehouse Party Time are the two locations for Outhouse show and shine at 4:00 pm on Saturday.

Sunday, races continue starting at noon.
Championship race at 3:30
Award ceremony at 4:00.

Examples of other awards given out include in Best of Show, Ugliest Outhouse, the Heaviest and the Slowest

All outhouses must weigh a minimum of 200 pounds, be 6 feet in height with a 9 square foot floor area. The racing vehicles must also contain a toilet seat, toilet paper and a working door.

There are, however, no height or weight limitations on the crew.

Entry fee is $75.00 for the 1st Outhouse and $50.00 for each Outhouse after that.
Entry Deadline is October 6, 2003

Originally, the Outhouse races began as a protest parade by local residents responding to the Environmental Protection Agency's ban of outhouses in Virginia City. Over the years, the protest parade evolved into another one of Virginia City's typically outrageous and comical events featuring the most unique and unblushingly decorated racing vehicles.

Food, music and entertainment will be available.
