Brades, Montserrat - July 1, 2008 - In honor of the destination's rich heritage and notable appreciation for historical influences, the island of Montserrat is preparing to celebrate its 3rd Annual Calabash Festival. The event will run from Sunday, July 13 through Sunday, July 20, 2008.

Named after the calabash fruit that was traditionally used to produce eating utensils, musical instruments and decorative items, the festival seeks to promote the destination's local craft industry to the rest of the world. With an emphasis on culture, organizers are anticipating strong support for the week-long event that will be brimming with entertainment and educational activities for both visitors and locals.

A range of events including a fun island bus tour, a let's go liming (a local term used to describe chilling out) tour of local rum shops, a rainforest hike in the Centre Hills and a 20-20 cricket match, will all take place during the festival. A musical concert held at the Montserrat Cultural Centre, featuring "African King of Jazz," Paul Lunga, will serve as the culmination for this year's festivities.
