Europe Travel Trends for 2008
By Rich Steck & Judi Janofsky
The 36 countries of the European Travel Commission has just issued its trends report for 2008 and here’s what looks hot for this year: Geotourism to cure our growing Nature Deficit Disorder; heritage travel as U.S. travelers discover their roots; new airport designed for pleasure; the re-invention of European spas by top designers; offbeat ways to sleep around; and insider shopping secrets for the always trendy urge to buy stuff on vacation. The report highlights shopping meccas like Brussels, Helsinki, London and Paris – with countrywide web sites to help you start your quest. What you’ll see when you arrive at many of Europe’s major airports is a trend to make the pleasures and comforts of the elite frequent flying hoi polloi available to the bedraggled travelers not privileged to sit up front in first class on the way over. Now these airports are creating lounges where us lesser mortals can relax, work and freshen up in civilized surroundings. The report focuses on six European airports’ efforts to bring comfort and service to the masses. ...More
