Global.travel Domain Name Holders Unite for World Water Day
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (MARCH 22, 2007/eTN ) - In honor of World Water Day, Tralliance Corporation, the .travel Registry, urges all members of the travel and tourism industry to support water-based charities worldwide.
'Coping with Water Scarcity' is the theme for World Water Day 2007, which is celebrated each year on March 22nd.
By donating $1.00 for every .travel domain name sold, and by encouraging domain holders to match that donation, the .travel Registry has been able to provide valuable support for the water-aid charity Just a Drop in global initiatives to provide clean water to thousands of children and their families.
This global charity provides children and their families with access to clean water through multiple water, sanitation and health projects worldwide, including:
• In Cambodia, "Just a Drop" has built 50 new wells in nine villages, restored five other wells and launched a community health program.
• In Mozambique and Malawi, money from "Just a Drop" has helped to drill 105 new boreholes, restored 90 other boreholes, and built 2,000 household sanitation platforms and 14 double latrine blocks for schools and clinics.
• In Swaziland alone, "Just a Drop" has helped to provide safe drinking water for 5,600 children and adults as well as build 700 latrines.
• And in times of crisis such as the Hurricane Mitch disaster in Central America and the catastrophic earthquake in Turkey, "Just a Drop" has helped transport hygiene packs, portable water containers and water purifying tablets.
The ongoing .travel philanthropic initiative has the potential to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars in the coming years and is the largest funding pledge for Just a Drop in the charity's history.
"We have made this commitment and encourage our travel industry colleagues around the world to join us in creating a more sustainable world - one village at a time - through fresh water and sanitary solutions," said Ron Andruff, president of Tralliance Corporation, the .travel Registry. "By contributing US$1.00 from every .travel domain name sold every year, and inviting every .travel registrant to match our dollar, we hope to provide hundreds of thousands of children and their families with access to fresh water for years to come."
