No Ice. No Problem. Bayfield, WI Is Still Nice.
The Bayfield Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the 14th annual Run on Water is still scheduled for February 11, 2006.
Bayfield, WI, February 6, 2006 - Yes...they DO run on water in Bayfield. In normal winters. For most of the previous thirteen years the water between Bayfield and Madeline Island in February has been solid enough to drive a Hummer over. In most "normal years" participants choose to run, ski, or snowshoe over the 5 mile course from Bayfield to Madeline Island and back on the Ice Road.
But not this year.
Nope. In 2006 the water is water. Not solid ice.
But that won't stop the fun.
In Bayfield, the run will go on. Just not on frozen Lake Superior!
This family event is open to people of all ages and skill levels who - this year - wish to run alongside the waters of Lake Superior.
Registration will occur between 9 and 10:30 am at the Pavilion with the run beginning at 11 am. The cost is $15 for adults and $10 for children that are ten or younger. All race fees will go up $5 the day of event. Healthy snacks and refreshments will be available before and after the event in the Lakeside Pavilion. Each participant will receive a royal blue fleece headband.
This year's Run on Water ( yes, it's still called that!) promises to be an exciting family fun event. For more information, call 800-447-4094 or visit www.bayfield.org to download a registration form.
A few years ago, after an extended search through the heartland, Alan Solomon, at the Chicago Tribune, named Bayfield "The Best Little Town in the Midwest."
Bayfield is located on the shores of Lake Superior and is considered the gateway to the Apostle Islands. In spring and summer people come to enjoy the natural beauty of Bayfield's orchards, wildflowers, and daffodils. In winter there's peace and solitude, snow and crisp bright mornings. Stay for the comfortable lodging, exceptional restaurants and exceptional retail shops.
